Huxley's fantastically directed barb at all those optimistic utopian novels of the time. With it’s negative vision of government control, caste systems & the loss of identity through mass production & consumption it was almost as if he'd seen The Only Way Is Essex… As the grandfather of science fiction, his legacy echoes throughout so many modern movies - from Blade runner, & Demolition man (most people missed that Sandra Bullock’s character was called Lenina Huxley) to Gattaca & Total Recall. But if all this future doom is a bit much for you then you could always take a Soma “hangover-free holiday” courtesy of the government.
