Is Britpop really such pejorative term? I don't think so. It reminds me of a great time to be living in Britain. Much of the good things may have become tarnished with time, but it was fantastic to be the perfect age for working in record shops in the mid-90s. So it has always puzzled me why Ash (and a few others) seemed so keen to distance themselves from it. Downpatrick's Ash didn't sound much like Blur or Oasis, but that was part of the appeal. They added a rockier and punkier edge and so should be championing their contribution, not hiding away from it. Anyway, enough of me... Girl From Mars is an absolute banger and one of my favourite 90s British rock songs.
