When Messrs Hook, Curtis, Sumner and Morris made their first public appearance together the name on the bill wasn't Joy Division or even Warsaw. Thanks (at least according to legend) to Pete Shelley of The Buzzcocks, they were called Stiff Kittens. The name may well have been more punk than Joy Division, but can any of us really imagine a band called Stuff Kittens singing Love Will Tear Us Apart or Transmission? It is well known that Warsaw was the name used prior to the change to Joy Division, but while Stiff Kittens may not be the name of great band, it is a great band band name and works perfectly as this alternative to Joy Division T-shirts
