As entertaining, ground-breaking and culturally significant as many of the pre-code horror movies were, nearly a century down the line and you wouldn't see them as scary and in a post-video-nasty world not what most would call "horror". The majority of them have even been given PG or even U certificates when released for video/DVD/Blu-Ray. That is with one grizzly and still genuinely shocking example... Tod Browning's Freaks. If you haven't seen it in a while, give it a watch as it stands up amazingly for its age.
