I started watching Top Of The Pops in the Late 70s. I started paying attention when I first saw Adam & The Ants in late 1980. But it was in the summer of 1981 when I first realised that music wasn't only about dancing and singing along to, but could also be really serious too - that dawning came when I saw the video to Ghost Town by The Specials. This wasn't Shaddap You Face, and it wasn't po-faced New Romantics, this was a sound that looked like the riots we saw on the news. But this was black kids and white kids together? That wasn't the story Kenneth Kendall told us on the news.
