Like so many songs from the early days of the blues, Salty Dog Blues doesn't really have an owner as such. Papa Charlie Jackson is credited on the first recording, but his role was more to adapt it from its traditional folk roots, and anecdotal evidence suggests New Orleans musicians were playing a version long before that anyway. But as with all our designs, we have to give it a sense of place somewhere. So we have tied it to Louisiana in a nod to Lead Belly, who arguably recorded the definitive version of Salty Dog Blues, Papa Charlie Jackon's credit and to those New Orleans pioneers.
