It is easy to dismiss Captain Beefheart, especially on works like Trout Mask Replica as wilfully weird. I have to admit when I first encounter Beefheart that that was my conclusion, however delve deeper and you find an incredible deep blues voice and musical visionary. OK, so it is not what anyone would call easy listening, but like his great friend Frank Zappa, few artists reward perseverance quite so richly.
