As a kid, Cannonball Run was, along with The Posideon Adventure and Star Wars, my favourite movie in the world. Fast cars (including the ultimate early 80s pin-up, the Lamborghini Countach), hot girls (including the other ultimate early 80s pin-up, Farrah Fawcett), Hal Needham stunts, the great American wide open, nice simple plot, a cool theme song and twinkly-eyed Burt Reynolds shining like a moustachioed god that every pre-teenage boy aspired to be. The film itself? Meh, who cares?
