The height of Britpop in the Mid-90s were the last time the singles charts meant anything, but even though the days of a meaningful Sunday chart countdown are long gone, Blur slugging it out with Oasis was a great way to end. Girls & Boys summed up the period so perfectly - influences from the Kinks to Acid House, a huge dose of the en vogue New Lad culture of Loaded and you had Blur at their commercial, if not creative peak. Radiohead's Thom Yorke is a pretty good judge of a songwriter, so when he was asked which song he wish he'd written it was a huge compliment to Damon Albarn, Alex James, Graham Coxon and Dave Rowntree when he said "Girls & Boys - the bastards"
