Whenever the great Christmas film debate* crops up, it always puzzles me that Trading Places is never mentioned. As I see it, it is a bit like Holland in the World Cup. It is never going actually to win it, but that doesn't stop them being a great side that everyone wants to watch and are capable of beating any of the favourites. Trading Places is a great movie. It's funny; it's got Jamie Leigh Curtis and Eddie Murphy at their peak; it's got Dan Akroyd at his second peak; its got great dialogue; memorable set-pieces and of course it has Christmas. * Yes, Die Hard is and of course It's A Wonderful Life wins, but Bad Santa is still a masterpiece.
